ART AND ITS DERIVATIVES

Merchandise derived from the "GRAPH" collection by artist Madeleine Murphy
Produits dérivés de la collection ''Graph'' de l'artiste Madeleine Murphy

During our Christmas Market at Studio M, I wanted to have some fun this year by creating merchandise from some of my particularly graphic and colorful works of all kinds. The idea is not new. Museums like the MoMA in NY have been offering us a shop for several decades that allows us to acquire a design object derived from an original work often presented in the museum and inaccessible to the general public.

Derivative products primarily consist of digital prints of artworks on artist's paper, which can be numbered like engravings or photographs. They offer a high-quality reproduction at a lower price than an original.

Merchandise is also a highly creative exercise in style. Choosing the right object will give the image a new life in the buyer's everyday life. Moreover, we are seeing strong growth in this type of products within the design and decoration sector.

This year my "Graph" cushions have been a huge hit! My artwork ends up on a sofa, not a wall, completely transforming the style, comfort, and energy of a room. My mugs accompany the first coffee of the day, my calendars refresh the wall with new images each month, and my bags cheerfully carry my pictures and signature.

Derivative products create a communication between art and objects by making them accessible to a wider audience, creating a tangible extension of artistic creation into everyday life.

Why do without it?
